headspace

This body of work was presented in the ‘763 Exhibition’ Artcetera, Belfast 2018.

Head-space is a project that I created in order for me to visualise my internal landscape and spiritual journey. The drawings are titled, ‘The enlightenment’, ‘The rebirth’, ‘The Etheral Plane’, ‘The Tentacles of Ego’, ‘The Illusion of Time’, and ‘The duality of Life’. I was heavily inspired by sacred eastern symbology, using symbols such as; the Mandala, the Yin and Yang and the third eye, to project and rationalise the images in ‘my head’. I wanted to create the idea of a sacred and safe space, creating somewhat of a shrine, a place where rituals would take place. For me, drawing is extremely therapeutic and an act of meditation, the repetition of patterns is ritualistic and calming which is reflected in the organised installation. I used the candle as a motif of light and divine energy, creating a sense of spiritual presence.

The triangular structure is reminiscent of sacred geometry, ancient pyramids and alter, which are full of mystery and lore.
